Sacral Nerve Root

Refers to the 5 pairs of nerve roots which branch off of the sacrum. The spinal canal can be divided into sections of segments according to the nerve roots that branch off of it. Nerves along the spinal column consist of 8 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 5 sacral, and 1 coccygeal. The nerve roots run through the bony spinal canal, and at each level a pair of nerve roots exit from the spine on the left and right side. The sacral nerve roots are the most prevalent areas for the Tarlov cysts to form.
