Fibrin Glue Injection or FGI
Fibrin Glue Injection or FGI is a procedure used for treatment of Tarlov cysts by first aspirating the CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) from the Tarlov cyst(s) and then injecting fibrin glue as a sealant to occlude the neck of the cyst and prevent CSF from further refilling the cyst. This procedure is performed by an Interventional Neuroradiologist, and sometimes with the assistance of a Neurosurgeon to guide the Neuroradiologist via CT guided fluoroscopy.
A more accurate name and acronym is Aspiration Fibrin Glue Injection or AFGI, to denote aspiration and then fibrin glue injection. Neither FGI or AFGI is recognized in the standardized, universally recognized medical abbreviations.
